Introduction

This post provides a quick summary of the Cold Comfort Guild Policies.

  • this post is for new or potential members to quickly get information about how the guild operates
  • the summaries do not cover all circumstances that may arise
  • for full detail, please read the complete policies, which are linked in each section below

What You Can Expect From the Guild (Detail)

A Clear Purposewe aim to be a top-tier raiding guild, both in patch 3.3 and Cataclysm
Transparent Policiesall our policies are available for anyone to read, and changes are made sensibly and in the open
Fair Loot Distributionyou will receive loot in proportion to the effort you put forward. We do not place restrictions on what you can declare interest in
Members Held to Accountall of Cold Comfort's raiders will pull their own weight
Sensible Progressionwe will always take on the most challenging content available based on our gear level and roster size

What the Guild Expects From You (Detail)

Class KnowledgeMembers must understand their class and where to get information on how to improve their performance
RaidingMembers must show up on time and prepared for raids and strive to perform as well as their gear will allow
LootMembers should make informed decisions about loot
AttitudeWhen raiding, our members focus on the task at hand. Drama is going to happen. Deal with it quickly and don't inflame it
ParticipationOur members visit this forum enough to know what is happening in the guild and in raids
CommunityOur guild is part of a larger community on our realm. We respect them and we want them to respect us.

How Loot Is Distributed (Detail)

Cold Comfort uses the EP/GP Loot System to distribute loot.  In brief:

  • everyone has a number called EP.  This measures effort and goes up when you raid or participate in a boss kill
  • everyone has a number called GP.  This measures how much gear you've received and goes up when you get loot
  • when you divide EP by GP you get a number called PR.  This is your priority
  • by sorting members by PR we get a list that shows who is first in line for loot

When loot drops that you are interested in, say int if the item is for your main character's main spec, or off if you want it for any other reason (offspec, alt, sidegrade, etc.), like this:

The winner is the first interested raid member in this order:
WhoWinner
Guild Members who declare intHighest PR
Outsiders who declare intHighest /roll
Guild Members who declare offHighest PR
Outsiders who declare offHighest /roll
In the above (contrived) example, Raksuta would have won immediately because she was the only person to declare interest.  If Talphis had also declared int, then PR would decide who won.

To see your PR (including seeing it change in real time during a raid), install the EP/GP Addon.

There is considerably more to the loot system, but this should be enough to get your started.  Refer to the full post for all the gory details.
